The purpose of this session is to identify general safety rules that may not be covered in other sections of the Safety Manual. It’s going to be a list of dos and don’ts, really. Talking about rules that apply to us are never fun, but it is good to know they are there and why. I’ll get you through this as painlessly as I can so get comfortable, get focused and let’s get going.</textformat></html><html><textformat leading='1' tabstops='[48, 96]' leftmargin='0' indent='0'>1. Smoking is permitted in designated areas only. ALL other areas of a work site are to be considered non-smoking. 2. All forms of horseplay are not permitted. 3. The use of compressed air to ‘blow off’ dust, debris, and so on, is not permitted. 4. Everyone is required to remain at their assigned work areas, unless directed by their immediate supervisor. 5. You’re required to wear clothing appropriate for your department or job function.</textformat></html><html><textformat leading='1' tabstops='[48, 96]' leftmargin='0' indent='0'>6. If you’re working around machinery, you must not be wearing loose clothing that could get caught-up in it. This includes making sure you shirttails are tucked in. 7. No sleeveless, muscle, or tank top shirts are allowed while on the job site. 8. Dangling earrings and exposed necklaces are not permitted,,, unless you’re in the office. No piercings on your face at any time. 9. Long hair and beards are to be well groomed or covered. Long hair is to be tucked underneath hard hats or shirts. 10. Warning barricades must be put into place in open areas. This includes barricade tapes,standing barricades, or fencing.</textformat></html><html><textformat leading='1' tabstops='[48, 96]' leftmargin='0' indent='0'>11. You are to display signs to caution personnel of potentially dangeous conditions. 12. Tasks involving repetitive lifting should be analyzed to determine alternate lifting methods that will reduce the risk of injury. 13. Training on proper lift techniques must be provided during new hire orientation, and periodically during site safety meetings. Everyone is to obtain assistance with lifting bulky or heavy items. 14. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters must be used on all receptacles, 15 amps and up including 30 amps when operating electrically powered tools. This applies to temporary wiring as well as permanent wiring. 15. The GFCI Testing Log must be done weekly on every FSG project where temporary power is being used. At times, Customers require an Assured Grounding Program in lieu of GFCI. You will find both these forms at the front of this course under “additiional references”</textformat></html><html><textformat leading='1' tabstops='[48, 96]' leftmargin='0' indent='0'>That’s it. ALL other areas of a site are to be considered non-smoking. 5.2.<tab></tab>All forms of horseplay are not permitted. 5.3.<tab></tab>The use of compressed air to ‘blow off’ dust, debris, etc. is not permitted. 5.4.<tab></tab>All personnel are required to remain in their assigned work areas, unless directed by their immediate supervisor. 5.5.<tab></tab>Personnel are required to wear clothing appropriate for their department/job function. 5.6.<tab></tab>To prevent the potential for getting caught in tools or machinery, no loose clothing is allowed in work areas - i.e., clothing tied around waist or over the shoulders, shirttails not tucked in. 5.7.<tab></tab>No sleeveless, muscle, or tank tops shirts are allowed while on the job site. 5.8.<tab></tab>Dangling (loop) earrings, exposed necklaces are not permitted, except while in the office. Jewelry such as piercings is not allowed on eyebrows, lips or on any part of the face. 5.9.<tab></tab>Long hair and/or beards are to be groomed or covered to protect against being caught in tools, machinery, etc. Long hair is to be tucked in/ underneath hard hats. 5.10.<tab></tab>Warning barricades must be put into place in open areas including: Barricade Tapes, <tab></tab>Standing barricades, or fencing. 5.11.<tab></tab>Signs used with caution or danger tape will provide personnel with the warning. 5.12.<tab></tab>Tasks involving repetitive lifting should be analyzed to determine alternate methods of completing the task. 5.13.<tab></tab>Training on proper lift techniques must be provided in new employee orientation and periodically through site safety meetings. Personnel are to obtain assistance with lifting bulky or heavy items. 5.14.<tab></tab>Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s) must be used when operating electrically powered tools with all receptacles 15 amps up to and including 30 amps. 5.15.<tab></tab>For all other applications, GFCI’s must be used in conjunction with portable electrical hand tools and outlets in use that are not part of a permanent wiring system. 5.16.<tab></tab>The receptacles of temporary wiring systems must be GFCI protected. 5.17.<tab></tab>The GFCI Testing Log must be done weekly on each FSG project where temporary power is being used. 5.18.<tab></tab>At times, Customers require an Assured Grounding Program in lieu of GFCI. Refer to the Assured Grounding Program Coding Scheme at the end of the handbook.</textformat></html>
